Majors’ walk-off win clinches pennant

LONDON – Robert Mullen’s one-out infield single scored Jakob Newton to give the London Majors a 4-3 home win Thursday over Guelph and the pennant and top seed entering playoffs.


London will face Brantford in the first round.


Mullen finished with three hits, while Taylor Wright also had three hits and scored a run. Newton went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Byron Reichstein and Keith Kandel each had two hits and scored.


Braeden Ferrington (1-0) struck out three to earn the win in two hitless innings of relief. Jose Arias tossed the first three innings and allowed two runs on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.


Conner Morro drove in two of Guelph’s runs on a double in the third inning. Claudio Custodio had the other RBI.

Custodio also threw eight innings and struck out 10. He gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits with a walk. Andrew Case (0-1) allowed a run on three hits in one-third of an inning to take the loss.


Guelph will face Hamilton to open the playoffs.
