Majors walk off Barnstormers

LONDON – Josh Niles’ two-out single in the bottom of the ninth scored Kaiden Cardoso and gave London an 8-7 win over Chatham-Kent on Sunday afternoon at Labatt Park.   

After London’s first two batters of the inning struck out, Cardoso, Eduardo De Oleo and Niles strung together three hits to end the game.  

De Oleo went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, and Francisco Fajardo singled and hit a solo blast. Niles’ ninth-inning hit was his third of the game, to go with three RBI. Cardoso went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Ken Sugi drove in a run, and Brad Verhoeven singled and doubled.  

Skylar Janisse (2-0) went two innings for the win, allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Majors’ starter Victor Payano gave up six runs on 10 hits in seven innings. He struck out six and didn’t issue a walk.  

London improved to 6-3. 

For Chatham-Kent (2-5), Evan Morrison went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Mitsuki Fukuda had three hits and three RBI. Two came in the Barnstormers’ six-run eighth inning that tied the game. Tim Wagner hit a two-run double in the inning, Torrin Vaselenak drove in a run, and Spencer Morin and Robert Mackie each had two hits.  

Aden Ryan (0-1) gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits in 2.2 innings. He struck out three. He took over for Christian Hauck, who yielded five runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts over six innings.
