Majors storm back to beat Cardinals

LONDON – London erased an early six-run deficit and scored 14 straight to beat Hamilton 14-6 Tuesday night at Labatt Park.

The Majors trailed 6-0 after two innings but rallied with five runs in the third and pulled ahead with a seven-run fifth.

Robert Mullen moved into second place among IBL home run leaders with his sixth longball of 2022. He finished the night with three hits, three RBI and three runs. Austin Wilkie went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI, Starling Joseph went deep for the third time this season and drove in two, Keith Kandel singled, tripled and scored twice, and Gibson Krzeminski, Phil Whelan, Kieran Bowles and Jakob Newton all drove in a run.

Daniel Gore (1-1) picked up the win despite allowing six runs on six hits over five innings. He walked two and fanned five.

Josh Niles and Julian Johnson each homered and drove in two for the Cardinals. Nathan Scragg had the other RBI. Justin Gideon went 2-for-5 with a run and Tyler Duncan picked up a pair of hits.

Wes Markle took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits and four walks in 1.1 innings. He took over from Ben Braun, who lasted three innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one.

London improved to 10-4, and Hamilton dropped to 4-9.
