Majors Sign RHP Cohen Achen

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Cohen Achen, a senior at Lindsey Wilson College (NAIA) who has shined as a starter for the Blue Raiders over the last two-plus years.

A native of Calgary, AB, Achen has gone a combined 13-7 with 186 strikeouts in 139 2/3 innings over 24 starts during the last two seasons. In 2023, he pitched to a 3.16 ERA and 1.14 WHIP and earned Mid-South All-Conference First Team honours.

His strikeout prowess has stood out. After posting a very strong 10.4 K/9 in his sophomore season, the right-hander put up an eye-popping 13.4 mark last year. That number was tops in the conference and fifth-best in all of NAIA baseball. At the same time, he cut down on his walks, leading to a 6.11 K/BB rate (110/18).

“Cohen has very good command of his fastball, and he also possesses a good arsenal of secondary pitches,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “This shows well in his low walk and high strikeout numbers in college. “He’s a guy we’re counting on to be a big part of our pitching staff.”

The 22-year-old began his collegiate career at Big Bend Community College in Washington before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the 2020 season. When baseball resumed, he made the transfer to Lindsey Wilson College, where he has thrived.

After a few appearances out of the bullpen in 2021, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound hurler moved into a starting role. And he hasn’t looked back since. He was named Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year in his debut – and a first-team all-star in the two years since.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to go to a new team and create new relationships and experiences,” Achen said of joining the Majors this summer. “I’m looking forward to competing with a great group of guys and continue to play ball at a high level.”
