Majors shut down Panthers
LONDON – Four London pitchers combined to blank Kitchener, and Champ Garner doubled home the game’s only run in a 1-0 Majors’ victory on Friday at Labatt Park.
Travis Keys fanned five through the first six innings. He scattered three hits and walked three. Ryan Beitel (1-1) struck out one in the seventh inning to earn the win. Jose Arias tossed a clean eighth, and Skylar Janisse worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth to lock down his sixth save.
London improved to 15-10.
Garner’s double came with two outs in the seventh. Brad Verhoeven also doubled.
Andy Vargas (0-7) pitched eight innings for the Panthers (9-17), who were shut out for a second straight game. He scattered five hits, walked one and punched out nine.
