Majors pull even with Welland for first place

LONDON – After falling behind Welland by a half game Thursday, the London Majors pulled even with the Jackfish atop the IBL standings one night later with a 7-2 win Friday over Toronto at Labatt Park.

Keith Kandel went 4-for-4 with two RBI, two runs and a steal for the Majors (25-9). Jakob Newton and Taylor Wright each had two hits and an RBI, Starling Joseph drove in a run and Byron Reichstein had two hits and scored.

Fernando Fernandez (2-1) struck out six over five scoreless innings for the win. He scattered three hits and didn’t walk anyone.

Angel Castro (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Jordan Castaldo, Grant Tamane and Greg Carrington all had two hits for the Leafs (21-14).
