Majors end IBL regular season with walk-off win

LONDON – Andrew Lawrence’s RBI single scored Gibson Krzeminski with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning to give London a 4-3 home win Wednesday over Guelph and end the IBL’s 2024 regular season.

London (26-16) will enter the playoffs as the third seed and face Hamilton, while fourth-place Guelph (24-18) will face Chatham-Kent.

Before he scored the winning run, Krzeminski doubled home Brad Verhoeven to tie the game.

London opened the scoring in the first inning and then tied it in the ninth on a fielder’s choice.

Majors’ reliever Tyler Gillies (1-0) picked up the win after escaping a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the 12th inning. Alex Springer started and went seven innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out eight.

Josh Garton and Carson Burns each had an RBI for Guelph. Ethan Hammond scored twice, and Frankin Torres had two hits.

Brandon Deans (1-2) took the loss after yielding three runs (one earned) on three hits over 3.1 innings. He walked one and fanned four. Starting pitcher Hector Yan gave up a run on one hit over five innings. He walked two and struck out three.
