Majors Edge Royals 7-6 in Extra Innings

GUELPH – It took the London Majors 11 innings to edge the Guelph Royals 7-6 Saturday afternoon at Hastings Stadium in Guelph to remain in second place, one game behind the Welland Jackfish.
The Majors had nine hits shared among nine players while Jarryd Lund (1-1) pitched 1.2 innings to pick up the win. He walked only one and struck four while holding the Royals hitless.
London scored three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh to tie the game 5-5 and force extra innings. Phil Whelan scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 11th inning.
London starter Pedro De Los Santos went five innings, giving up five runs, all earned, on eight hits and five walks while striking out four. Bo Lewington pitched 4.1 innings in relief, giving up only two hits and two walks and striking out two.
For Guelph, Claudio Custodio went seven innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts. He was followed by Ben Reid who pitched a scoreless eighth and Brandon Deans (0-1) who pitched three innings, allowed two runs and one walk with four strikeouts.
J.D. Williams had four hits including two doubles and two RBI’s to lead Guelph while Malik Collymore had a two run double in the first inning.
London improved to 9-3 and Guelph fell to 6-7.
