Majors edge Leafs

LONDON – London beat Toronto 4-1 on Friday night at Labatt Park to open the first half of a home-and-home with the Maple Leafs.  

Josh Niles went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Majors (22-13). Toby Simmons tripled home a run, and Kyle Maves added an RBI. Tucker Zdunich walked twice and scored twice.  

Travis Keys (4-2) started on the mound for London and struck out 11 over six innings. He was charged with a run on six hits and a walk. Skylar Janisse struck out two of three batters in the ninth to register his 11th save. 

Ryan Dos Santos and Marcus Knecht each had a pair of hits for the Leafs (15-20). 

Wilgenis Alvarado (2-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. He walked four and struck out six.
