Majors come out swinging against Cardinals
LONDON – London took advantage of a weary Hamilton team in Game 1 of their IBL semifinal Saturday night at Labatt Park.
The Majors scored five runs in the first and pounded out 17 hits en route to a 12-1 win against a Cardinals’ club that upset Guelph in a fifth and deciding game the previous night.
Taylor Wright homered and drove in three for London. Jakob Newton went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, Robert Mullen drove in a run and scored twice, Andrew Lawrence, Chris McQueen and Daniel Perrier all had an RBI, Phil Whelan drove in two, while Keith Kandel and Starling Joseph had two hits and a run apiece.
Jose Arias (1-0) struck out eight over seven innings for the win. He allowed a run on three hits with two walks.
Ryan Burnside had two of Hamilton’s four hits, including a solo home run in the seventh. Luis Jean singled and doubled.
Michael Bonaccorso (0-2) took the loss, giving up five runs on three hits and two walks in an inning.
