Machibroda’s blast sends Baycats past Sox

BARRIE – Nolan Machibroda homered to lead off the seventh inning and put the Barrie Baycats ahead for good in a 3-2 home win over Brantford on Saturday.

All of Barrie’s scoring came on the longball, with Ryan Rijo and Malik Williams also going deep. Tyler Plumpton singled twice.

Brad Grieveson (1-0) picked up the win in relief after allowing two runs on three hits over two innings. He walked one and struck out two. Juan Benitez struck out three of the six batters he faced for the two-inning save.

Baycats’ starter Carlos Sano went five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and one walk and struck out three.

Jeremie Veilleux and Jaret Lupton each drove in a run for Brantford, which dropped to 0-3. Gus Wilson singled twice.

Norman Coleman-Goodwin (0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing the go-ahead run on three hits in his only inning of work. Josh Laukkanen started and went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
