Longballs lift Leafs past Guelph

TORONTO – Justin Marra and Johnathan Solazzo each hit two home runs to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 16-9 win over Guelph Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.


Marra drove in three and scored three times, while Solazzo had three hits, five RBI and three runs. Jose Vinicio went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, Connor Lewis had three hits, an RBI and a run, Dan Marra and Greg Carrington each drove in a pair of runs, Grant Tamane singled twice and Luca Boscarino scored three times.  


Angel Castro (2-2) went seven innings for the win, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and three punchouts.

Ethan Hammond homered and drove in five for the Royals. Josh Garton went deep and drove in two, while Darius Barlas had a pair of RBI.


Brando Leroux singled three times and scored twice, while Brendan Malik Collymore Keys went 2-for-4 and scored.

Ben Braun (1-3) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits over 2.1 innings. He walked two and struck out one.


Toronto improved to 18-12, and Guelph fell to 20-10.
