Leafs walk off Royals in 11th

TORONTO – After coughing up a two-run lead, the Toronto Maple Leafs battled back from their own deficit to hand the Guelph Royals a 4-3 loss in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Dan Marra went 2-for-4 in the win, driving in a run and scoring once. Luca Boscarino also had an RBI.

Adam Marra (1-1) earned the win in relief, striking out one in a scoreless 11th. Diego Dominguez started and went three no-hit innings, striking out a pair of Royals.

Gueph’s Conner Morro went 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base. Darius Barlas was credited with the other RBI. Brando Leroux scored twice.

Royals starter Claudio Custodio went eight innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Nelson Mercado gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits over two innings to take the loss. He walked one and struck out two.

Toronto led 2-0 early before Guelph scored once in the fifth and tied the game in the eighth. The Royals took their first lead in the 10th, but the Leafs responded with a run to set up the 11th-inning dramatics.

Toronto moved to 3-5, and Guelph fell to 4-4.
