Leafs walk-off Baycats
TORONTO – Cole Murchison walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Toronto a 10-9 victory over Barrie on Wednesday night at Christie Pits.
Though it was a free pass that ended the game, Toronto (14-23) used the longball to keep pace with the Baycats. Marcus Knecht went 2-for-4 and hit one of four Leafs’ home runs. He finished with three RBI, one more than both Justin Marra and Jordan Castaldo, who also homered. Connor Lewis added a solo blast, Johnathan Solazzo had two hits and an RBI, and Jose Vinicio went 3-for-4 and scored three times.
Adam Marra (2-1) earned the win on the mound after allowing an unearned run on two hits over 1.1. innings. He struck out one. Wilgenis Alvarado went the first 6.1 innings and was touched for two runs on seven hits with 13 punchouts.
For Barrie (24-12), Ryan Rijo went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Nolan Machibroda singled, doubled and drove in four, Hayden Jaco added an RBI, and Canice Ejoh singled, scored three times and stole his 15th base of the season.
Losing pitcher Ryan Lacasse gave up a run on one hit and three walks in 1.1 innings. He also struck out three.
