Leafs move one win from final

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs scored runs in each of the first six innings and moved one win from the final with a 14-7 victory over Welland Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Marcus Knecht went 4-for-5 and hit three of Toronto’s eight home runs. He drove in five and scored four times. Greg Carrington, Justin Marra, Jose Vinicio and Jordan Castaldo all hit solo blasts, while Johnathan Solazzo homered and drove in three. Dan Marra went 2-for-4 and scored once.

Dylan Jacober (2-0) walked two and struck out two over four scoreless innings to earn the win in relief. He took over from Dustin Richardson, who also lasted four innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Gianfranco Morello and Taylor Dupuis each homered and drove in two for the third-place Jackfish. Justin Gideon, Mattingly Romanin and Sam Cawker all had solo home runs.

Chris Lazar (0-1) took the loss, allowing six runs on four hits with a walk over four innings.

Game 3 is Tuesday in Welland.
