Leafs move above .500
TORONTO – Toronto moved above .500 after a 9-8 win over Brantford on Sunday at Christie Pits.
Justin Marra hit two of the Maple Leafs’ four home runs. He drove in two and scored three times. Dan Marra drilled a three-run home run, and Jordan Castaldo hit a solo shot, his 100th Career home run in the IBL.
Marcus Knecht had two hits and scored twice, Matt Brandt drove in a run, Rando Moreno had three hits, and Ryan Dos Santos had a hit and stole three bases.
Ayami Sato (1-0) struck out one in a scoreless eighth to earn her first career win and push Toronto to 4-3 on the season.
Taylor Lepard allowed a run in the ninth but earned the save. Drew Howard started on the mound and gave up five runs on five hits over two innings. He walked one and struck out two.
Christian Ortega led the Red Sox (1-7) with four hits. He went deep twice and drove in three. Tim Holyk hit a pair of two-run home runs, and Ethan Paulos added a sacrifice fly. Colby Klepper (0-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in the eighth inning. Red Sox starter Nicholai Arbach allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings. He walked six and struck out one.
