Leafs' hurlers shut down Hamilton
HAMILTON – Toronto's Chris Leroux and Justin Cicatello combined to shut down the Hamilton Cardinals' bats in the Maple Leafs' 7-1 win Wednesday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Leroux, a former major leaguer who last pitched for the New York Yankees in 2014, went the first four scoreless innings and walked two and struck out six while giving up one hit. Cicatello (3-0) followed and went the rest of the way, surrendering a run on four hits over five innings. He fanned a pair of Cardinals without issuing a walk.
At the plate, Dan Marra went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Grant Tamane singled twice and drove in a run while scoring once, Justin Marra doubled and had an RBI, Damon Topolie went 2-for-4, Alex Seelman drove in a run and scored twice, and Connor Lewis scored twice after a pair of walks.
For Hamilton, Connor Bowie drilled a solo home run in the fifth inning. Justin Gideon went 3-for-4 and stole his ninth base of the season.
Chris Lazar took the loss, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits over 6.1 innings. He walked three and struck out three.
Toronto improved to 9-12, and Hamilton dropped to 9-10.
