Leafs hang on against Baycats
TORONTO – Toronto built an early lead and then hung on to beat Barrie 10-6 on Wednesday night at Dominico Field.
Justin Marra went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for the Leafs, who led 9-0 after five innings. Jhon Javier and Jordan Castaldo each drove in two runs, Luca Boscarino and Ryan Dos Santos both had two hits and scored a run, and Marcus Knecht scored twice.
Franklin Hernandez (1-0) went five scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound. He scattered three hits, walked three and struck out eight.
For Barrie, Noel McGarry Doyle doubled home two during the team’s six-run eighth inning. Brandon Hernandez had two hits and an RBI, Austin Boylan singled home a run, while Joshren Magnaye and Alex Wickett had an RBI apiece.
Johnathan Warden (0-1) took the loss after giving up six runs on three hits in 2.2 innings. He walked seven and fanned four.
Toronto improved to 15-19, and Barrie dropped to 21-13.
