Leafs come up big in extras

KITCHENER – Toronto scored three times on two hits in the top of the 10th in Kitchener and hung on for a 10-8 win Thursday night.

Ryan Dos Santos hit a two-run home run in the second inning and added a solo shot in the sixth for Toronto (5-8). Jordan Castaldo and Marcus Knecht each singled, homered and drove in two. Justin Marra added an RBI, and Jose Vinicio had a two-run double in the 10th.

Leafs’ reliever Dustin Richardson (1-0) tossed the last 2.1 innings for the win. He allowed a run on four hits with two strikeouts. Wilgenis Alvarado started on the mound and pitched into the seventh, giving up five runs on eight hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Jose Vasquez took the loss for Kitchener (2-9), which has dropped four straight. He was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts over two innings. Panthers’ starter Yadian Martinez punched out 10 batters over 6.2 innings. He gave up seven runs on six hits and two walks.

Raul Gonzalez led Kitchener with a home run and three RBI. Nick Parsons drove in a pair and scored twice, Kenny DiClemente and Ryan Burnside had an RBI apiece, and Jett Jarvis singled twice, doubled and scored.
