Leafs beat Baycats in extras

BARRIE – After striking out in his first four at bats, Dennis Dei Baning lined a single up the middle to score Luca Boscarino in the top of the 10th inning and give Toronto a 2-1 win in Barrie on Thursday night.  

The game was delayed by rain for more than an hour, and Toronto opened the scoring in the first inning on an error. Ryan Dos Santos and Spenser Ross each had two hits for the Leafs (13-18).  

Adam Jafine (1-3) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. He walked one and struck out oneToronto starting pitcher Matt Brown lasted six innings and gave up a run on five hits with two walks and seven punchouts. He went pitch for pitch with Barrie’s Frank Garces, who struck out 12 over seven innings. Garces was charged with a run on seven hits and two walks.  

Baycats’ reliever Carlos Sano (4-1) took the loss after yielding a run over two innings. He walked one and struck out two. 

Francisco Hernandez hit an RBI single for Barrie (19-12). Noel McGarry-Doyle, Brandon Hernandez and Willy Garcia all had two hits.
