Leafs’ bats come alive in blowout win

TORONTO – Three of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 19 hits were home runs Sunday afternoon in a 14-0 win over the visiting Brantford Red Sox.

Justin Marra went 3-for-4 with a solo blast. He also scored three times. Aidan McAskie singled, homered and drove in three while also scoring three runs, and Damon Topolie went deep for the first time this season and had three RBI.

Johnathan Solazzo went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run, Jose Vinicio scored twice, Jordan Castaldo had two hits and a run, Grant Tamane drove in a pair, Greg Carrington went 4-for-5 and Luca Boscarino singled twice and scored twice.

Leafs’ starting pitcher Zach Sloan went the minimum five innings to earn the win. Sloan (3-1) scattered five hits, walked one and struck out three.

Lucas Bateman had two of Brantford’s eight hits. Five other players singled, while Shamil Ubiera doubled.

Jacob Lupton was touched for eight runs on eight hits over two innings. He walked four and struck out one.

Toronto improved to 7-5, and Brantford fell to 0-9.
