Lazar goes the distance in Cards' win
HAMILTON -- Chris Lazar became the first pitcher in the IBL in 2021 to go the distance, striking out six in a complete-game shutout as the Hamilton Cardinals blanked the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0 Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Lazar (1-0) scattered seven hits and walked one as the Cards moved to .500 after four games.
Offensively, Cal Brazier went 3-for-4 with a solo home run -- his third longball of the season. Justin Gideon drove in two, Austin Wheeler singled twice and drove in a run, while Tristan Osika walked twice and scored twice.
Garret Takamatsu led the Leafs with three hits, and Grant Tamane singled twice. Toronto dropped to 2-2.
Andrew Hyde (0-1) took the loss on the mound, giving up three runs on six hits over five inning. He walked three and struck out two.
