Late run seals Royals’ win in Hamilton

HAMILTON – Ethan Hammond’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning scored Sean Reilly for the winning run in the Guelph Royals’ 5-4 win Sunday in Hamilton.


Malik Collymore and Dalton Pompey each had two of Guelph’s six hits. J.D. Williams drove in two.


Emilis Guerrero (7-3) picked up the win in relief, allowing a run on four hits over four innings. He walked two and fanned five. Andrew Case walked one in a scoreless ninth for his fourth save. Jeifry Nunez started and went four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts.


Guelph improved to 27-11.


Stefan Strecker (0-1) took the loss, giving up the winning run on two hits and a walk in the seventh. Starting pitcher Nick Davies gave up four runs on two hits over three innings with seven walks and two strikeouts.


Laine Renaud drove in two for the Cards (10-28), while Josh Niles had the other RBI. Tyler Duncan went 2-for-3 with two runs.
