Jansen’s four-hit night sinks Red Sox
BARRIE – Owen Jansen’s fourth hit of the night gave the Barrie Baycats a 3-2 win over Brantford Saturday.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Plumpton led off with single. He advanced to second on a passed ball and scored three pitches later when Jansen’s single ended the game. Jansen also doubled twice and singled, driving in two. Dylan Shepherd went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run and Malik Williams had a pair of hits.
Chris Cox (1-2) earned the win despite allowing a game-tying home run to Liam Sutherland in the top of the ninth. He struck out one. Barrie starter Riley Hoover allowed an unearned run over six innings. He scattered four hits and struck out two.
Brantford’s Gabe Bruder (0-5) allowed a run on two hits with a walk to take the loss. Red Sox starter Garrett Larner gave up two runs on nine hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Spencer Jamieson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, driving in Sutherland in the second inning.
Brantford fell to 0-17, and Barrie improved to 12-9.
