Jackfish wins eighth straight

GUELPH – Welland’s offence came alive in the last three innings on Tuesday night in Guelph, and the Jackfish extended its win streak to eight games with a 6-1 win.  

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the seventh, Austin Gomm tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Brendan Luther doubled home the go-ahead run. Welland pulled away with three runs in the eighth, capped by Matteo Porcellato’s two-run single. Pier-Olivier Boucher singled home a run in the ninth.

Halen Knoll (2-0) picked up the win on the mound, giving up a run on four hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out one.  

Liam Wilson accounted for Guelph’s offence with a solo home run in the fourth. Garrett Takamatsu had two hits. Edgar Garcia (1-2) took the loss after giving up two runs on four hits in seven innings. He walked three and fanned four.  Welland improved to 22-6, and Guelph dropped to 11-17.
