Jackfish win debut over Majors
WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish era started with a 9-1 win over the London Majors Saturday afternoon at Welland Stadium.
Formerly the Burlington Herd, Welland needed just four hits and capitalized on four London errors to spark its offence.
DeAndre Asbury-Heath homered, stole a base and drove in two while scoring three times. Andrew Mercier went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Wilson Soriano had an RBI and a run, and Nolan Pettipiece scored twice and added a sacrifice fly.
Euclidis Leyer (1-0) earned the win with six innings of one-run ball. He yielded two hits and walked three with a pair of strikeouts.
Ismael Pena singled and scored for London, which dropped to 1-3.
Juliandry Higuera (0-1) took the loss, going five innings and allowing five runs on three hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
