Jackfish takes advantage of home field to start series

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish took advantage of home field with a pair of wins over the London Majors.

Thursday's 11-3 victory gave the Jackfish a 2-0 quarter-final lead before the series shifts to London for two games. 

Brendon Dadson and Nolan Pettipiece each collected two hits and three RBI. Mattingly Romanin went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run, Brandon Nicholson and Bryce O'Farrell each had a hit and a run, Vaughn Bryan singled twice and scored, DeAndre Asbury-Heath picked up three hits and two runs, Andrew Mercier had an RBI, and Wilson Soriano drove in a run and scored twice.

Matthew Clingersmith (1-0) went eight innings, giving up three runs on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

For London, Yuki Yasuda went 2-for-4 with two steals, an RBI and a run. Ismael Pena had two hits, an RBI and a run, Mike Ambrose drove in a run, and Josh Williams singled twice.

Owen Boon (0-1) took the loss, surrendering nine runs on 10 hits with four walks and a strikeout in 4.2 innings.
