Jackfish take sole possession of first place
WELLAND – Welland moved a half game up on London for first place in the IBL after a 17-5 win Thursday night over the visiting Brantford Red Sox.
Sam Cawker doubled three times and had two RBI and two runs for the Jackfish (25-9). Hogan Brown went 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs, Matt Hilderbrandt drove in two on a pair of hits, Tyler Dupuis scored twice, and Matteo Porcellato, Ethan Hunt, Tyson Gomm, Gianfranco Morello and Justin Gideon all had an RBI.
Wyatt Hummel (2-0) allowed two unearned runs over 1.1 innings for the win. He struck out two in relief of Brandon Underhill, who was pulled with two outs in the fourth after giving up three runs on eight hits.
Kendri Salvador (0-4) took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) on nine hits over 5.2 innings. He walked five and fanned four.
Liam Sutherland and Jamiel Orozco each drove in a run for the last-place Red Sox (2-31). Evan Ryan had a pair of RBI, while Jon Dziomba and Brodie Mackay each had two hits and scored.
