Jackfish strikes late in Brantford

BRANTFORD – Welland scored nine straight runs to turn an early deficit into a 9-2 win Friday night in Brantford.  

Brandon Hupe and Brendan Luther each had two hits and an RBI for the Jackfish (5-0). Jonah Weisner drove in two and scored twice, and Jake Sanford, Joshua Marchese and Lucas Lefebvre all drove in a run.  

Welland trailed 2-0 after the first inning and scored four runs in the sixth inning, one in the seventh and another four in the eighth.  

Jackfish starting pitcher Jose Dominguez (1-0) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings for the win. He struck out six and didn’t issue a walk.  

Tim Holyk and Christian Ortega both went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for the Red Sox (1-5). RenTachioka had two hits and scored once.  

Koki Togashi (0-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits over three innings. He walked one and struck out three. Brantford starter Connor Irvine allowed two unearned runs on one hit in five innings. He also walked four and fanned five.
