Jackfish spread offence in home-opening win over Red Sox

WELLAND – Seven Welland players had at least one hit, and five drove in runs as the Jackfish opened the 2022 season at home Thursday with an 8-1 win over the Brantford Red Sox.

Tyler Dupuis went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run for Welland. Eric Marriott had two hits and drove in a run, Sam Cawker had an RBI and scored twice, Gianfranco Morello singled home a run and accounted for one of four Jackfish steals, and Mattingly Romanin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Jake Harford (1-0) earned the win, scattering three hits over six innings and allowing an unearned run. He walked two and struck out six. Chris Boatto fanned six in three shutout innings, allowing two hits for his first save.

Roger Keen collected two of Brantford’s five hits. Gabe Bruder (0-1) took the loss on the mound, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits over four innings. He didn’t register a walk or strikeout.
