Jackfish rolls past Panthers

WELLAND – Matteo Porcellato had three of Welland’s 18 hits and drove in five as the Jackfish rolled to a 17-1 win over Kitchener on Thursday night.  

The Jackfish right-fielder also stole three bases, as Welland swiped eight bags.  

Brandon Hupe added a three-run blast for Welland (30-10), which has already locked up first place and could face Kitchener in the opening round of playoffs. Jonah Weisner went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs, Brendan Luther had two hits and drove in three. He also scored three times. Gianfranco Morello went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Greyson Barrett and Robert Mullen each had two hits and scored twice.  

Jose Dominguez (6-3) picked up the win after three scoreless innings of relief. He struck out two and walked one. Teodoro Ortega started and went two innings, giving up a pair of hits and fanning four.  

Kitchener (16-24) scored its lone run in the ninth inning on an error. Trent Lawson doubled, and Petey Kiefer tripled.  

Andy Vargas (2-9) took the loss on the mound. He was charged with eight runs (five earned) on nine hits in four innings. He walked one and struck out five.
