Jackfish pitchers one-hit Cardinals

HAMILTON – Three Welland pitched combined to one-hit the Hamilton Cardinals in a 2-0 win Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Teodoro Ortega (2-0) went the first seven innings and struck out five. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh when Danny Berg singled two batters into the inning. Deivy Mendez pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 10^th save of the season.

Gianfranco Morello went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run. Robert Mullen had the other RBI as both of Welland’s runs came in the sixth inning.

Hamilton starting pitcher Mizuki Akatsuka (3-3) took the loss despite allowing two runs on six hits over eight innings. He walked one and struck out nine.

Welland improved to 28-10, and Hamilton fell to 16-21.
