Jackfish moves into first-place tie with Majors

WELLAND – Welland moved into a first-place tie with London following a 12-4 win Thursday night over Hamilton.

Matteo Porcellato went 3-for-4 with a home run – one of three the Jackfish hit – and four RBI. Sam Cawker and Hogan Brown each homered and drove in two, Ethan Hunt went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs and Mattingly Romanin had two hits, two RBI and a run.

Jake Harford (7-1) gave up two unearned runs on two hits over six innings for the win. He struck out three in relief of opener Mike Wagner, who allowed two baserunners in a scoreless first.

Hamilton starter Adrian Salcedo (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Tyler Duncan went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Josh Niles and Tristan Osika drove in the other runs.

Welland (17-6) is tied with London but a few percentage points back of the Majors, with one more win and one more loss. Seventh-place Hamilton fell to 6-15.
