Jackfish keep streak alive
WELLAND – Welland’s three-run seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie, and the Jackfish held on for a 4-3 win Saturday over Kitchener.
After Jonah Weisner’s RBI double gave the Jackfish its first lead of the game, Robert Mullen drove in two more with a bases-loaded single. Pier-Olivier Boucher had the other RBI as Welland improved to 20-6 with its seventh straight victory.
Gianfranco Morello, Matteo Porcellato and Brendan Luther all had two hits and combined to score three times.
Ben Abram (5-2) allowed a run on three hits over seven innings to pick up the win. He fanned five and didn’t issue a walk. Deivy Mendez earned the save despite allowing two runs on four hits in the ninth. He struck out AJ Karosas with runners on second and third to lock up his third save.
Evan Elliott (2-3) went seven innings for the Panthers (9-18). He was charged with four runs on 11 hits with three walks and eight punchouts.
Offensively, Yosuke Fuji hit a solo home run. Yunior Ibarra went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Charlie Towers drove in the other run.
Kitchener fell to 9-18.
