Jackfish hit, steal its way to win over Cards

HAMILTON – Welland put up twelve hits and twelve stolen bases on its way to an 11-5 win Tuesday night in Hamilton.
Gianfranco Morello and Brandon Nicholson each had two hits, two RBI and two runs for the Jackfish (16-6). Sam Cawker hit a two-run blast, Ethan Hunt went 2-for-4 with two runs, Zarley Cina had two hits, an RBI and a run, James Smibert drove in a run, Matteo Porcellato drove in a run and scored twice and Mike Wagner had an RBI.
Nicholson had a team-high three steals. Porcellato, Cawker and Hunt all had two steals apiece.
Rich Corrente (4-0) earned the win, spinning six innings while allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits. He struck out one and didn’t issue a walk. Brett Lawson went three scoreless innings in relief, scattering three hits and striking out one for his first save.
Sam Turcotte (0-3) took the loss for Hamilton. Five of the six runs he allowed over four innings were earned. He scattered six hits and walked five while striking out four.
Justin Gideon went 4-for-5 with a run atop the Cards’ lineup. Anthony Buonaiuto, Tyler Duncan, Laine Renaud, Tristan Osika and David Ortiz all drove in a run.
