Jackfish hands Majors first loss
LONDON – And then there was one.
Welland is the last undefeated team in the IBL this season after a 6-2 win over the previously perfect London Majors on Tuesday night at Labatt Park.
Jackfish cleanup hitter Robert Mullen went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Jonah Weisner singled twice, stole two bases and scored three times, while Jake Sanford and Greyson Barrett each collected two hits.
Welland starting pitcher Teodoro Ortega (1-0) earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits over four innings. He walked two and struck out three.
London’s Victor Payano (2-1) took the loss. He was pulled with one out in the seventh and charged with six runs (two earned) on 10 hits with two walks and seven punchouts.
Francisco Fajardo doubled home a run in London’s two-run third inning. Kaiden Cardoso scored Toby Simmons on a sacrifice fly the next batter, which briefly gave the Majors a 2-1 lead.
London fell to 5-1, and Welland improved to 3-0.
