Jackfish extends win streak
TORONTO – Welland extended its league-leading win streak to five games after a 15-5 win Friday night in Toronto.
Jackfish catcher Robert Mullen hit his IBL best 10th home run, a two-run blast in the sixth inning. He added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Pier-Olivier Boucher also drove in three, Jonah Weisner and Gianfranco Morello both had two hits and an RBI, Brendan Luther had two hits and two RBI, and Brandon Hupe went 3-for-5 and drove in two, and Austin Gomm singled, doubled and scored twice.
Halen Knoll (1-0) pitched five innings for the win in his first start of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and eight punchouts.
For Toronto, Justin Marra went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Dennis Dei Baning had two hits and an RBI, Jhon Javier drove in a run, and Ryan Dos Santos singled and doubled.
Josh Berenbaum (3-3) was touched for five runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. He walked three and struck out six.
Welland improved to 19-6, and Toronto fell to 12-14.
