Jackfish extends IBL lead after win in Guelph

GUELPH – Welland extended its lead atop the IBL to 1.5 games over London with a 16-7 win in Guelph Tuesday evening.
James Smibert went 4-for-6 and fell a triple short of the cycle as the Jackfish try to maintain first place.
Brandon Nicholson and Zarley Cina each had two hits and an RBI, while Hogan Brown laced four hits, driving home three and scoring twice.
Matteo Porcellato went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs, Ethan Hunt singled twice and scored three times, Leo Markotic drove in a run on two hits and Gianfranco Morello also drove in a run.
Scott Gillespie (2-0) earned the win, allowing three runs on a hit over six innings. He also walked three and struck out seven.
Nelson Mercado (0-3) took the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits. He walked two and struck out two.
At the plate, Kyle Kush, Conner Morro, Malik Collymore, J.D. Williams and Justin Interisano all drove in a run, while Brando Leroux drove in two.
Welland moved to 9-2, and Guelph dropped to 6-5.
