Jackfish enters playoffs red hot

WELLAND – Welland finished its regular season on Saturday with a sixth straight win.

Matteo Porcellato homered and drove in two for the defending champions in their 5-2 victory over Toronto. Tyler Dupuis also drove in two, while Dawson Tweet and Jonah Weisner each had a pair of hits.

Enrique Saldana (7-2) struck out five of six batters he faced in relief to earn the win. Teodoro tossed two scoreless innings to start the game, and Deivy Mendez fanned two in the ninth to pick up his league-leading 12th save.

Welland (32-10) has home field throughout the playoffs.

Leafs’ starting pitcher Angel Castro (2-6) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Jose Vinicio and Jordan Castaldo each had two hits and an RBI for Toronto (17-24). Connor Lewis, Dan Marra and Mike Cecchetto all had a pair of hits.
