Jackfish duo leads Welland past Red Sox

WELLAND -- Tony Kwon and Matt Hilderbrandt did most of the offensive damage in the Welland Jackfish's 10-7 win over visiting Brantford Thursday night.

Kwon's grand slam sparked a five-run fourth that pulled the Jackfish even until Hilderbrandt's RBI single two batters later put Welland (2-2) ahead, if only for a few innings. Kwon, who also singled, scored in the eighth as Hilderbrandt drove in his third run on his third hit.

Aaron Dunsmore and Andrew Mercier drove in Welland's other runs. Dane Tofteland scored twice.

Zachary Cameron picked up his first save of the season, striking out one in two clean innings. Welland starter Rich Corrente went five innings, scattering seven hits while allowing five runs (three earned). He walked one and struck out three.

For Brantford (0-3), Liam Sutherland went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, while Colton Fountain singled twice and drove in a pair of runs. Jesse Fishbaum went deep for a solo home run, his first longball of the season.
