Jackfish blanks Royals

GUELPH – Robert Mullen homered, and Euclides Leyer struck out eight over five scoreless innings in Welland’s 3-0 victory on Saturday night in Guelph. 

Mullen’s solo home run was his 11th longball of the season, putting him a tie with Chatham-Kent's Sadler Goodwin. Matteo Porcellato went 2-for-4 with an RBI, James Smibert drove in a run, and Brandon Hupe had two hits.  

Leyer (6-1) only allowed three runners on a hit and two walks. Deivy Mendez struck out two in an inning for his sixth save.  

Conner Morro, Keinner Pina and Andy Leader had Guelph’s hits.  

Brandon Deans (1-3) took the loss after giving up a run on four hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out three.  

Welland improved to 29-10, and Guelph dropped to 18-20.
