IBL Pre-Season Power Rankings

1)Barrie Baycats – Last Rank: 2nd

Fresh off a perfect 10-0 playoff run, the defending champions are poised to chase another title. The addition of former MLB outfielder Willy Garcia bolsters an already experienced and battle-tested roster. Rumors of two key players returning—both instrumental in last year's championship—further strengthen their case as the league’s top team. Their rotation, featuring Frank Garces, Cesar Rosado, and Juan Benitez, is a formidable challenge when firing on all cylinders.

2) Hamilton Cardinals – Last Rank: 6th

The Cardinals were among the busiest teams this offseason. They signed former London Majors ace Owen Boon, acquired 3B Johnathan Solazzo via trade, and made headlines by signing legendary MLB closer Fernando Rodney. Opponents will be circling these matchups on their calendars. Known for strong starts, the big question will be whether Hamilton can maintain that momentum through the grind of a full season.

3) Welland Jackfish – Last Rank: 1st

With a dominant record over the past three seasons, Welland set a high bar. However, success brought challenges, as several players moved on to pro leagues. Still, their pitching rotation remains one of the league’s best, led by Ben Abram, Carlos Ortega, Jose Dominguez, and Euclides Leyer, with Deivy Mendez waiting in the bullpen to close things out. Offensively, Jake Sanford returns as the leader, joined by newcomer Brendan Luther, who brings another spark to an already dangerous lineup.

4) Guelph Royals – Last Rank: 4th

After winning their first playoff series since 2012 and reaching their first finals since 2004, the Royals fell short against Barrie. Their rotation remains solid with Jacob Kush and Kyle Thomas returning, and the addition of Edgar Garcia in the closer role adds depth. The signing of Liam Wilson helps address the absence of long-time slugger Josh Garton, currently sidelined with an injury. One concern: they’ve yet to sign a catcher, with Franklin Torres unavailable until late June or early July.

5) Chatham-Kent Barnstormers – Last Rank: 5th

The Barnstormers learned a lot from their inaugural season and are beginning to show real growth heading into 2025. Offensively, they’ll look to replace the departed Seth Strong with young talent like Owen Constantineau (MVP of the Canadian University Championships) and Evan Morrison. On the mound, Brock Whitson, Aden Ryan, Christian Hauck (formerly of Kitchener), and Mitzuki Akatsuka (acquired from Hamilton) will share rotation duties.

6) London Majors – Last Rank: 3rd

The Majors are always competitive, and 2025 should be no different, despite losing key hitters Kaiden Cardoso and Starling Joseph. Their offense will look different but more aggressive with the additions of OF Toby Simmonds, SS Francisco Fajardo, and INF Trent Lenihan. On the mound, Victor Payano, Jose Arias, and Travis Keys lead the rotation, while Jaryd Lund and Skylar Janisse bridge the gap to closer Tyler Gillies.

7) Toronto Maple Leafs – Last Rank: 7th

Toronto is making history with the signing of pitcher Amaymi Sato—the first woman to play in the IBL. Sato, a five-time world champion and three-time MVP, joins a Maple Leafs squad in transition. The team has brought in several new imports alongside Sato and will be relying on young arms eager to prove themselves this season.

8) Kitchener Panthers – Last Rank: 8th

Now under new ownership, the Panthers are entering a fresh chapter. With several departures from last year’s everyday lineup, this season will be an opportunity for new faces to step up. The team retains a strong Cuban presence, which will be key to navigating the hitter-friendly conditions at Jack Couch Park.

9) Brantford Red Sox – Last Rank: 9th

After two straight last-place finishes, the Red Sox are aiming for a turnaround under new ownership and a refreshed identity. Jeremias Sucre anchors a revamped rotation joined by newcomers, including Japanese import Mashiro Fukada. Nicholai Arbach and Connor Irvine are expected to join post-college season. Offensively, returning IBL veteran Luis Jean (formerly with Welland and Hamilton), OF Ty Smith, and C Cassidy Watt will look to help Brantford return to playoff contention.
