IBL Power Rankings: Week 4

Every week, a panel of IBL media experts will submit their power rankings. These submissions will be averaged to determine the official power rankings for that week. These rankings only consider games results through Sunday June 2nd.

1. Guelph Royals

Royals remain atop of the power rankings as they have the league's highest team batting average over .300 and the lowest ERA at 2.20. Pitcher Jacob Kush remains a standout, not surrendering a single run across his starts, while Joshua Garton has been leading the offense.

2. Hamilton Cardinals

Dominated last week with three wins and impressive scoring. MVP Tyler Duncan slugged his way to player of the week as the Cardinals offense exploded over the past weekend. Takaki Eguchi shined in his start against the Barrie Baycats on the road. Brett Lawson has been effective moving into a regular Friday night starter role.

3. London Majors

Cooled off after a strong start, but their lineup remains potent with six players batting .300 or better, including rookie Kaiden Cardoso who is nearing a .400 average. Cardoso is a player to watch for Rookie of the Year.

4. Barrie Baycats

Recovering from a tough loss with two subsequent wins, Barrie's pitching staff leads in strikeouts with 78. However, the departure of Malik Williams to the Frontier League poses a challenge for their offensive lineup.

5. Welland Jackfish

Lukewarm start for the Jackfish with losses so far to London, Hamilton, and Toronto. They also have three relievers who have yet to allow an earned run; their bullpen might be the best in the league. They will need to rely on their core from last year to remain consistent going forward into June.

6. Kitchener Panthers

Overcoming a slow start, with Yadian Martinez leading the league with 30 strikeouts. The addition of Pedro De Los Santos could significantly boost their performance on the mound. Their offense will remain a question mark unless addressed. But the Panthers are making improvements since the start of the season.

7. Chatham-Kent Barnstormers

Chatham-Kent came out of the gate with excitement but has struggled recently by dropping 5 in a row. They are led by starting pitcher Aden Ryan and power hitter Seth Strong, who has a .400 average and four home runs. The Barnstormers will have to add more gas to the tank to compete the rest of the season.

8. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs have struggled defensively with the most errors in the league (24) and a disappointing start despite a talented roster. The club is made up of veterans so they will look to find their groove later in the season. But with the league being more competitive than ever, every win counts and the Leafs will need to secure some early victories if they want to secure more playoff dates at Christie Pits.

9. Brantford Red Sox

Brantford has relied on their bats in the past couple of seasons are now facing some serious challenges with a low team batting average (.213) and only one win. Gus Wilson’s strong performance has been a highlight but he will need support if the Red Sox are to move up the power rankings and standings.
