IBL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP: Jackfish gets back into series

WELLAND – After scoring six runs through the first two games of the Dominico Cup final, the Welland Jackfish’s offence came to life in Tuesday’s 13-1 Game 3 win over Barrie. 

The Baycats lead the best-of-seven series 2-1 and host Game 4 Wednesday. 

Sam Cawker went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the win. Carlos Martinez slammed a pinch-hit, three-run blast and Steven Moretto hit his sixth home run of the playoffs, a solo shot in the second inning. James Smibert went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Matteo Porcellato picked up a pair of hits, and Gianfranco Morello, Hogan Brown and Tyler Dupuis all drove in a run. 

Welland pitcher James Bradwell struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings for the win. He gave up one hit and didn’t issue a walk. 

Victor Plaz scored Barrie’s run on an error in the top of the eighth.

Jeifry Nunez took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over 1.2 innings. He walked two and struck out one.
