IBL final starts Sept. 7 in Welland
The Intercounty Baseball League final starts this weekend as the top two regular season teams vie for the Dominico Cup.
Welland hosts defending champion Barrie in Game 1 on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. The Jackfish went 31-11 in the regular season to finish seven games ahead of the Baycats, who were 24-18.
Welland swept Kitchener in the first round and needed all five games to eliminate Guelph in the semifinal.
Barrie went the distance with Toronto in the quarter-final and swept Hamilton in the next round.
The Jackfish won four of five head-to-head meetings in the regular season, though three of the games were decided by one run.
In the playoffs, Welland slugger Robert Mullen is hitting .423/.559/.692/1.251 with two home runs, five RBI and more walks than strikeouts.
Noel McGarry Doyle leads Barrie's offence in the playoffs. He's slashing .438/.471/.469/.940 with eight runs and three stolen bases.
