Hilderbrandt, Boatto carry Jackfish past Baycats

BARRIE -- Matt Hilderbrandt hit his league-leading fifth home run, and Chris Boatto allowed one earned run and struck out eight in a complete-game effort to carry the Welland Jackfish to an 8-2 victory in Barrie Tuesday night. 

Hilderbrandt's solo shot in the seventh gave Welland a 4-1 lead, and it moved him into a four-way tie atop the IBL home run leaders. He also drove in a run the following inning with an RBI single. Brendon Dadson went 2-for-5 with four RBI, Dane Tofteland had two hits, an RBI, a run and stolen base, Griffin Keller went 4-for-6 and scored three times, Eric Marriott singled twice and swiped a base, and Cole Warken drove in a run. 

Boatto (3-2) scattered eight hits and walked a batter. 

Noel McGarry-Doyle and Owen Jansen drove in Barrie's runs. Tyler Plumpton singled twice and scored. 

Juan Benitez (3-2) took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits in 5.2 innings. He walked three and fanned six. 

Welland improved to 7-9, and Barrie dropped to 6-10.
