Groening goes deep twice in Chatham win

CHATHAM – Andrew Groening went deep twice in Chatham-Kent's 14-4 victory over Toronto on Sunday afternoon at Fergie Jenkins Field.  

The Barnstormers’ left-fielder hit a two-run blast in the first inning and another in the fourth. He also scored four times. Spencer Marcus drove in three, Sadler Goodwin and Robert Mackie both had two RBI, Spencer Morin had two hits and an RBI, and Owen Constantineau and Mitsuki Fukuda each had two hits and scored.  

Mizuki Akatsuka (5-4) struck out seven over 5.1 innings to earn the win. He yielded two runs (one earned) on four hits.  

Chatham-Kent improved to 20-16.  

Jhon Javier homered and drove in three for the Maple Leafs (16-21). Connor Lewis had the other RBI.  

Matt Brown (0-2) took the loss after giving up seven runs (five earned) on six hits in four innings. He walked two and struck out three.
