Goodwin goes deep three times in win
CHATHAM – Sadler Goodwin went deep three times and moved into a tie for the most home runs in the league in Chatham-Kent’s 19-4 win over Brantford on Saturday night at Fergie Jenkins Field.
Goodwin hit a three-run home run in the first inning and added solo blasts in the third and eighth innings. His 11 home runs are tied with Welland’s Robert Mullen atop the IBL leaderboard, and he’s tied for sixth with 31 RBI.
Victor Plaz went 4-for-5 with six RBI, punctuated by a grand slam in the fourth inning. Torrin Vaselenak hit a two-run blast, Evan Morrison went 3-for-6 with two RBI, Braxton Haggith singled twice and drove in two, Owen Constantineau had two hits and an RBI, and Robert Mackie went 2-for-6.
Mizuki Akatsuka (6-4) went six innings on the mound and allowed two runs on four hits with six punchouts.
Chatham-Kent (22-17) is a half game back of second place.
Christian Ortega hit a two-run home run for the Red Sox, who dropped to 9-29. Brody Black singled and hit a solo home run. He also scored three times.
Noah Law took the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings. He walked three and struck out one.
