Garcia powers Baycats past Leafs

TORONTO – Willy Garcia homered and drove in four to lead Barrie to an 8-6 win Friday night in Toronto.  

Garcia added a double as part of the Baycats’ 17-hit attack. Clayton Keyes went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, Noel McGarry-Doyle had three hits and scored three times atop the Barrie lineup, while Tristan Clarke and Alex Wickett each had a pair of hits.  

Baycats’ starting pitcher Juan Benitez (3-1) tossed six shutout innings before running into trouble in the seventh. He was charged with six runs (four earned) on nine hits over 6.2 innings. He walked three and fanned five. Carlos Sano struck out the side to lock down his fourth save as Barrie improved to 12-9.  

For Toronto (11-12), Ryan Dos Santos went 2-for-5 with a bases-clearing double in the Leafs’ five-run seventh inning. Dan Marra and Dennis Dei Baning each had two hits and an RBI, and Justin Marra and Benjamin Sitarenios had a pair of hits apiece.  

Matt Brown took the loss on the mound after allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits over four innings. He walked one and fanned four.
