Gallo helps Royals batter Barrie
GUELPH – Jordan Gallo’s three-run blast capped a five-run bottom of the eighth inning and sent Guelph to a 7-3 home win over Barrie on Tuesday night.
The Royals trailed 3-2 entering the inning, but Matthew Ward tied the game with a one-out triple that scored Connor Morro. Morro plated the go-ahead run on Garrett Takamatsu’s single, which set the stage for Gallo’s dramatics. Brando Leroux added two hits for Guelph (7-9).
On the mound, Jordan Taylor (1-0) threw three one-run innings of relief to earn the win. He walked one and fanned five. Edgar Garcia started and went three scoreless frames, walking one and striking out four.
For Barrie (7-9), Tristan Clarke homered, while Nolan Machibroda drove in a pair on an RBI single in the top of the eighth.
Curtis Lazar (0-2) took the loss after getting touched for five runs on five hits in an inning of relief. He walked one and struck out one. Ethan Morris started and allowed two runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out three.
